Steampunk & Espionage

All hail the Overlady, Gail Carriger! Once again this magnificent author captivated me with her enthralling world in which she has set her now second series. Etiquette & Espionage is absolutely amazing! Carriger's writing style is witty and incredibly fun to read. I loved the premise of her newest series with having it set in a "finishing" school in the mid-1800's. Now, what this school is teaching young ladies to "finish" is really quite interesting.

I still prefer her Parasol Protectorate Series, but that just may be because it held a lot more biting wit I can study to later use as a weapon as compared to the wit withing her new YA series. I do so love her writing, though. I can't wait for the next book.

Nearly done my own Steampunk costume, inspired by these lovely books. My roommates are throwing a literary themed party to celebrate their graduation and I believe I shall attend as Miss Alexia Tarabotti. I just need to fix myself up a beautiful parasol and find some decent buttons for my costume and I'll be all set. not that I need the costume for months to come yet, but it's always best to be prepared. I plan to make lots of sweets just for this party so I can stand by them and eat them and potentially not share. I will have been the one to make them after all.

Crazy Ideas

So cold out! It wouldn't be so bad if my first class of the day wasn't a twenty minute walk from the apartment. Unfortunately, that's exactly what it is. And then I have to speak only in French for less than an hour, a skill I don't actually have, before going back on that twenty minute walk in the cold. I really hope it'll start to warm up soon. I miss having feeling in my face.

I have a lot of down time this semester, though. I have a about three and four hours between some classes depending on the day, and I don't have a job up here. So I need something to amuse myself with, and I've had an idea. Well, it's an idea I've had for a very long time, but it's such a pointless one that I don't see the point in it. Those are the best kind of ideas, though, aren't they? The sort that have no point, but can be brought up in conversation when you want it to be well known that you aren't in the least bit normal.

A trend among college students is to have a zombie plan. And that's fine and dandy, quirky and a bit cute. Not a thing wrong with having a zombie plan, but I want more than just a zombie plan. I want something that goes several levels past an end of the world plan. I want a plan for just about every impossible scenario out there. Lets say I'm transported to another world where there's magic and awesome and I need to go adventuring  I want to have a guide on how to grow my own penicillin, a guide on how to treat for various poisons, and, most importantly, how to clean bandage wounds with few provisions. I want to bring these things up in conversation and watch as looks of confusion and vague concern appear. Yes, this may have to do with the fact that I don't like people talking to me, but it still sounds fun.

So, if I ever get stranded on an island, I will be prepared.

Write Every Day?

I have a decent number of writing intensive classes. In fact, three of my five classes happen to be writing intensive. That's a lot of writing! But it's my creative writing class that wants the most from me. It's been requested we write every day. So far I've succeeded in two of these five days since this has been asked of us.

Problem is, I don't know what to write about. My life? How I spent eight hours sitting at a desk where mostly I just read? Sure, I guess other days are can be much more interesting. Like Thursdays. Thursdays often have some story worthy events occur. After all, that's when my friends and I go to the bar for Bad Decisions on a Thursday Night. While none of us have ever made truly bad decisions past going to class hung over the next morning, we do get the pleasure of watching everyone else make very poor decisions.

Or maybe I could write down how many references to television, books, movies, and comics my friends can make within one day. The number has to be in the hundreds. After all, what kind of day would it be if we didn't make fun of someone by saying they're dressed like a science officer on the Enterprise?

I could also continue to use this blog as a way to continue procrastinating from doing my French homework.

This will probably just continue to be a source of procrastination.

That Thing Again

I have this horrible habit of sitting in the middle of the floor thinking "I could do that!" and proceeding to make a halfhearted attempt at doing the said thing. That is what this blog is. That little halfhearted attempt to do something productive with my life in a vaguely entertaining way. Also, it's helping me procrastinate from doing French.

A blog is something I keep telling myself I should do. That I ought to have weekly posts so I can become famous. It's never worked out before, but I've had further encouragement of late to preform the task of blogging. So here it is, a lovely little blog that will probably be forgotten about to collect dust.
